His journey began in Romania, where he founded "Aer Pur Romania," the first non-governmental organization in the country dedicated to protecting non-smokers’ rights. This pioneering effort marked the start of a lifelong commitment to tackling the dangers of tobacco and second-hand smoke.
Under Cornel’s leadership, ENSP has become a reference point in tobacco control across Europe. He has not only inspired advocacy but also brought together some of the best experts in the field, creating a powerful coalition to push forward life-saving policies.
Cornel is also an accomplished author, contributing significant research on tobacco use in Europe. His work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the WHO World No Tobacco Day Award in 2021 and the ENSP Award for Excellence in Tobacco Control in 2022.
